How To Obtain macOS 13 Ventura From The Mac App Store
- Prepare for macOS 13 Ventura.
- To be safe:
- Restart your computer.
- Quit all running applications.
- Disconnect all external devices except for monitor, keyboard, mouse and required storage volumes.
- Eject all optical discs.
- Unmount all servers.
- Make sure you are connected to the internet by using a web browser to go to Apple.
- If you are running macOS 12 Sierra or later:
- Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update.
- Click the macOS Ventura "Upgrade Now" button.
- If you are running OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks, OS X 10.10 Yosemite, or OS X 10.11 El Capitan:
- Use Safari to go to macOS 13 Ventura on the Mac App Store .
- This should open the Mac App Store application (if it doesn't click the "View in Mac App Store" button).
- In the Mac App Store application click the "Buy", "Get", "Install" or "Download" button. NOTE: "Buy" usually means you never purchased this item on the Mac App Store before and there will be a charge. "Get" usually means you never purchased this item on the Mac App Store before and there will be no charge. "Download" usually means you have purchased this item on the Mac App Store before and you can now download it. "Install" usually means you have purchased this item on the Mac App Store before and already downloaded - the Mac App Store has found it on one of your currently connected storage volumes - be careful here as Install may actually install a different/incorrect version.
- Enter your Apple ID and password if you are not already signed in to the Mac App Store.
- The macOS Ventura full installer should start to download (an icon will appear in your Dock with a progress bar). NOTE: The Ventura full installer is ~12.5GB in size. Without a fast internet connection the progress bar will take some time to actually show any progress - be patient while it downloads (go watch a film or two, do the shopping, get some sleep, etc).
- When the Ventura full installer has downloaded it will automatically launch and ask you to continue.
- Do not click Continue yet.
- Quit the Ventura installer (yes, quit it).
- Go to Macintosh HD > Applications and make a copy of/backup the "Install macOS Ventura" item (~12.5GB in size) e.g. copy it to another disk or USB stick
- Go to Macintosh HD > Applications and open "Install macOS Ventura".
- Follow the on screen instructions choosing where you want to install macOS Ventura.
- Once macOS 13 Ventura has installed you should:
- Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update and update all other available Apple software.
- Read our macOS 13 Ventura Post Install FAQ.
- If you have third party SSDs check whether you need to re-enable TRIM via trimforce.
- Update any Microsoft software you may have installed.
- Update any Adobe software you may have installed.
